Developing Courses on LMS
Overview
One of my intern tasks is to build courses on Litmos, a SAAS/Cloud platform for e-learning, also known as learning management system or LMS. Litmos is used for employee training, customer training, channel training, and compliance training. The platform integrates online training with traditional classroom teaching. On the platform, trainers or instructors can upload overview, slides, activity checklist, and assessment quizzes. In the meantime, Litmos functions as a registration platform for classroom training and WebEx meeting. Through checklist and quizzes, instructors are able to track and monitor students’ learning progresses. Students and instructors are also able to post questions and answers to discussion board. Different from Canvas and Blackboard, Litmos allows users to create learning paths, which is a list of courses that users need to take. Courses can be re-used in various learning paths, which saves efforts in copy and pasting the same content. The follow image shows the interface of the course.

Litmos has been implemented as supplementary tool for instructor-led learning and gradually as an instructor-monitored e-learning tool where instructions are delivered by videos. Unlike the four-day training, a thorough and detailed introduction to all the features and functions of the products, the instructor-led videos are segmented into modules, each introducing a core function of the product. Part of my job was to edit Naviance video tutorials with Camtasia Studio 8. The following figure shows the interface of the software.
